Archeological inspection at Lingraj Temple, Bhuwneshwar in collaboration with IIT Gandhinagar for OBCC Ltd.
Scope of Work:
GPR investigation to map underground utilities and archaeological structures up to depth of 5 m.
Location:
Lingraj Temple, Bhuwneshwar, Orissa.
Client:
OBCC Ltd.
Equipment:
GSSI SIR 4000 equipped with 200 MHz center frequency antenna.
Summary:
This study attempted to explore the potential locations containing any buried archaeological features corresponding to different era’s up to the depth of around 5 m using the non-destructive technology, Ground Penetrating Radar. The three areas of Ekama Kshetra are surveyed i.e., Cultural Plaza, Lingaraja plaza and Devipadahara pond. The output results of this study will help to plan and optimize the further excavation at specific locations. The known features from GPR will prevent the damage of the existing archaeological features during excavation process.
Based on the inputs from the relevant sources, available studies and information about the existing features, the depth of exploration is expected to be maximum of 5 m, therefore the survey has been executed using 200 MHz antenna to cover the expected depth with fair resolution.
